Road construction expected to resume this spring with two project in Kapuskasing

It’s going to be a busy spring with road construction in Kapuskasing. Not only will the work resume on Government Road from LaSalle to Gurney Road, but a second project on the two bridges west of town is also expected to get underway.  Administrator Guylain Baril is hopeful the connecting link project can be wrapped up as soon as possible.

“The ugly part of the job was completed last year,” he said. “That was to replace the water main sitting underground so implementing some storm water systems underground as well. So this year it’s more surface work – the stuff we see the asphalt, the sidewalks, the curbs.”

One change will see the ditch near the railway tracks filled in and then covered with grass. Town officials hope things will look better for motorists when they are driving through Kapuskasing.

Baril says there will be very few if any traffic delays on the two bridges project West of town because most of the work will take place underneath the bridges.

“The supports that hold the bridges, the two bridges, so some of the steelwork underneath with painting and things like that,” he said. “So that work may be going on at the same time as the work on the highway on the other side.”

The bridge repair work is a two year project with funding shared with all levels of government.
