Cochrane’s mayor, Peter Politis, responds to the Northern Industrial Energy Program. The program provides up to 20% relief for electricity contracts to qualifying northern industries. Politis says that the economy of the community relies on the largest gold mine in North America and the rates are critical to sustaining the industry as well as the forestry mills and the railroad. Politis says that he is excited about the news from the Province on continuing the NIER program on an ongoing basis. This is a positive decision and it’s good to see the Province believe in us as they do.
