Rotary Club’s Bay Dip Challenge set for Saturday afternoon

The Rotary Club’s Bay Dip Challenge is set for Saturday at the Kapuskasing River bay area. Committee member Robyn Bassari says due to the pandemic and public health protocols there are several changes including reducing the crowd size to just ten people.

“The jumpers jump and then they’ll go back to the parking lot and then go home then the next jumper will go,” she said. “We have a nice little set up there. We have lots of support from the town and different departments — Paramedics, and firefighters.”

More than 30 participants are registered including two that are too young to take the plunge.

“What we had was a jumper that wasn’t able to jump because of her age, and we said we are going to make something happen cause it’s so inspiring, that someone wants to raise money at such a young age for such a great cause,” Bassari said. “It’s really it’s overwhelming.”

Last year nearly 25,000 was raised for various local charities in the community, and with the pandemic Bassari says it’s unknown what they will be able to raise this year.

The event will be streamed live on the Rotary Club’s Bay Dip Facebook page from 1 to 4 pm.
