One COVID-19 case triggers outbreak designation at Villa Minto in Cochrane

In an institutional setting, one case of COVID-19 constitutes an outbreak. So the Villa Minto longterm care facility in Cochrane is dealing with a single-case outbreak.

The Porcupine Health Unit won’t specify whether it’s a staff member or resident, just that the case was identified during routine testin, and that the patient was not showing any symptoms.

One more case has been diagnosed in what PHU loosely defines as the “area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls”.  There’s no indication whether it’s related to the one at Villa Minto.

In addition, there are two more cases in the Hearst-Hornepayne area, bringing the regional total to 314.

UPDATE AT 5:00pm: Two more cases are being reported by PHU, both somewhere on the James or Hudson Bay Coast, both under investigation and self-isolation.  The total now is 316.
