Suspected COVID-19 variant rears its head again in Porcupine Health Unit territory

The Porcupine Health Unit expects that further testing will confirm the second and third instances of a COVID-19 variant in its region.

It says one of the people with the suspected variant got it from being exposed to an outbreak in another region.  They passed it along to the other person.

This comes as the health unit still waits for confirmation that one case at Extendicare Kapuskasing is also a variant of the virus.  It was identified on February 4th.

Until results are ready, the PHU doesn’t know exactly which variant is involved in any of the three samples, or whether it originated in the UK, South Africa or Brazil.
