Bourgouin writes letter to Premier asking for Ministry to operate Extendicare Kapuskasing

The MPP for Mushkegowuk-James Bay has asked Premier Doug Ford for the province to take over management of Extendicare Kapuskasing.

Guy Bourgouin says it’s an emergency situation at the long-term care facility with 11 residents passing away and another 31 have active cases. He adds that there are 20 staff members also with active cases, including one that’s in critical care at a regional hospital.

Earlier this week, the Porcupine Health Unit confirmed the first possible screen of a covid-19 variant. Bourgouin says the Extendicare staff have done their best to deal with the impossible, and added that this extraordinary situation calls for extraordinary measures.

It’s second letter that Bourgouin has written to the province, as two weeks ago he asked the Long Term Care Ministry to send in either the Ontario Red Cross and Canadian Armed Forces to deal with the outbreak.
