Laurentian University in Sudbury is in such dire financial straits, it has applied for court protection from its creditors.  And provincial colleges and universities minister Ross Romano has appointed a special advisor to help him deal with the matter.

Romano says he’ll consult Dr. Alan Harrison as Laurentian works its way back to financial sustainability.

He adds that ensuring that students continue their studies without interruption is the government’s priority.

Laurentian has 9,000 undergrads and just over 500 post-graduate students.
