Status quo on additional emergency measures for Kapuskasing

It’s status quo regarding any further lockdown and emergency measures for Kapuskasing in wake of the rising numbers in the COVID-19 outbreak at Extendicare. Mayor Dave Plourde says if the outbreak starts to spread outside the facility then they may consider further action.

“Right now all efforts are on to containing the outbreak at the facility,” he said. “As soon as we see, or something were to come out indicating that there is a need to do exactly what they are saying that’s when we call an emergency meeting of council and do it from there.”

Plourde says daily briefings continued right through the weekend with all health care partners regarding the outbreak.

He adds town officials have kept up to date regarding the situation and ready to provide services wherever they can.

“We are limited to what we can do really – in way of health care,” he said. “But certainly there are all sorts of services the municipality can offer that might alleviate other things that might come up.”
