New fully accessible, inclusive playground and park in Hearst

Kinzee Park in Hearst has gone through some major changes in the past several months thanks to a $152,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The Town of Hearst was able to build a new 530 square foot playground, as well as a gazebo and a portable washroom. CAO Yves Morrissette says prior to these new features no municipal playground was inclusive for all residents.

“Play structures are wheelchair accessible, and for people with mobility issues,” he said. “It’s really an inclusive park for everyone in the community and that’s what we are really proud of.”

Morrissette credits one organization for its hard work during the project

“Very active accessibility members here in Hearst, and they have designed the entire plan,” he said. “I think it’s a great addition to the municipal infrastructure and thanks to them for their creativity.”

Morrissette hopes the town can hold a formal ceremony to open the facility the spring but public health protocols will decide how big if any gathering can take place.
