Northeast Ontario is sure to have a snow-filled Christmas; some areas might get rain

Right on time for Christmas, we’re getting the snow we might have thought was eluding our region.

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says it’s part of a storm that’s gathering over Wyoming and North Dakota.

He adds that warm air could push northward, giving the Timmins-Cochrane area periods of rain.

“So that may keep the snowfall amounts down a bit in the Timmins and Cochrane area, while somewhat colder air keeps Kapuskasing probably in the snowfall for a longer period of time,” says Coulson.

“Snowfall amounts through Thursday into Timmins are probably going to be somewhat less than other areas… but areas north through Kapuskasing and Fraserdale and places like that could be seeing storm accumulations of 20-30 cm.”

Coulson says to keep an eye on the forecast.  The advisory could change to a storm watch or warning.
