New charging stations ease ‘range anxiety’

Two charging stations for electric-only cars are now open in Hearst and Timmins.

Theresa Dekker is co-president of the Ivy Charging Network, a joint venture of Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation.

“The Hearst one is going to be at Super Eight at 1004 Front St.,” she says, “and the Timmins location is actually at Canadian Tire, which is 2199 Riverside Dr.”

It costs 30 cents a minute for a charge and takes about 20 minutes.

Dekker says the trend towards more all-electric cars on the road will continue.

“One of the things that we are aware of is that when people are thinking about purchasing a vehicle, they may have some anxiety when thinking about ‘am I actually going to be able to charge this vehicle?”

Dekker says the Ontario-wide charging network will ease that “range anxiety”.
