101 Experiences project receives funding from Desjardins Good Spark program

A tourism project from Temagami to Constance Lake received unique funding last weekend. One hundred and one Experiences got $100,000 from the Desjardins Good Spark fund. The money will be used to create a tourism experiences, give online training and offer support to help participants with their plans. Project manager Nicole Guertin says the group is thrilled with the news especially when it was the only project from outside of Quebec to get funding.

“So on top of getting the funding, we were also showcased in the program that ran on prime time across Canada,” she said.

She says that exposure on national television is invaluable to the group and region.

Guertin noted that by the summer of 2021 the group wants to develop 101 experiences that could be as simple as skiing and snowshoeing, snowmobiling and even cultural activities.

“We do have an opportunity right now with the pandemic, people wanting to come up north but we need a product,” she said. “If we just get a few experiences here and there it wont’ be enough. We need to have enough content for people to go all the way to Kapuskasing.”

Guertin says another goal is to make our communities more welcoming and open to visitors by sitting down with First Nations or new Canadians to share cultural ideas and create a heartwarming atmosphere and inviting for all.
