Municipalities still not sure of role during COVID-19 vaccine distribution

Municipal leaders learned more about the distribution plan of the COVID-19 vaccine during a zoom video conference call with Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently. The 444 mayors were told that the hardest hit red zones will be the first to receive the vaccine. Kapuskasing Mayor Dave Plourde says he appreciates the province keeping everyone up to date on the developments.

“That’s something that I can say is new,” Plourde said. “It’s nice to see the government working with the municipalities and that we keep a large role in keeping people safe too, and acknowledging that we can play a role here.”

Plourde says there is no word as of yet of what role municipalities could play and when the vaccine is expected north.

“And everyone wants to help and they are ready to help,” he added. “I think was was mentioned there was that they’ll be called upon when needed and to stand by, They will need us in the future so that is great.”
