Food Bank needing cash to help its food voucher program during holiday season

Those who require assistance from the Kapuskasing Food Bank have their own Christmas traditions and some of the contents received in food hampers don’t mesh well at times with their traditions. That’s where the food vouchers come in according to chairman Rick Bartlett who says about 325 people are helped with vouchers at a cost of 17 thousand dollars alone last year.

“So in an ideal world we would very much appreciate if we could have the funds needed towards this as opposed to the food,” he said. “And that way we can use those funds to compensate the amount of money we are spending to take care of our clients through the voucher program.”

Bartlett says some don’t like the contents of the food hampers so this allows them to get what they want.

“And for a single person it’s a $50 voucher, a couple is 75 dollars, and a family its $100,” he said. “This is above and beyond the food that they normally get every single month and now they can go to independent and whatever their Christmas traditions is they can use those vouchers.”
