Fire Chief reminds us to be cautious around home as holiday season approaches

As you get ready to celebrate the holiday season, the fire chief at the Kapuskasing Fire Departments reminds you to be extra cautious. Pat Kennedy says there have been several incidents in 2020 where people have been careless and it’s lead to a loss of homes and property.

“We’ve rescued one person from their basement, we’ve had to pull three people out of a window in an assisted living home, we’ve had arsons, we’ve had you know inattentive errors that people have done, and this is all in 2020,” he said.

One of the areas that has Kennedy concerned is repair snowmobiles in attached garages. He noted that in one case carbon monoxide travelled through the home because there wasn’t proper ventilation.

Kennedy who says it’s important to understand and know our surroundings even before we start

“Make sure you do have the confidence to work on your machine,” he said. “We all like to fiddle around with our stuff but you know we have to be comfortable and knowledgeable when working on these things, so we don’t risk hurting ourselves or losing property.”
