Lots of change for users and staff at Donat Brousseau Pool in Kapuskasing

It’s been a few months since the Donat Brousseau Pool reopened in Kapuskasing. Changes were made due to the COVID-19 pandemic including limiting the number of people using the pool and in the change rooms. Pool coordinator Nadia Brassard says another change has been moving from public swim lessons to private.

“Any level under level four the parents have to go in with the student or the swimmer, to manipulate them as the instructor has to maintain a two-meter distance while they are teaching on deck on or in the water.”

Brassard says it’s taken everyone a bit of time to embrace the change and admitted things were a bit slow at the beginning.

“They were a little quiet, I think I think the difference in area it was not a social aspect anymore so people who want just the lessons are signing up,” she said. “The parents aren’t too excited about going in the water all time so that’s another barrier for us.”

Brassard says between swims and classes pool staff has been cleaning inside the changerooms and around the pool due to the public health protocols.
