Members of council won’t accept remuneration increase this year

It appears members of Town Council won’t be taking the remuneration increase this year. During Monday night’s meeting councillor Martin Credger asked to waive the increase of point five per cent to show support of the tough times that residents have been going through because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Dave Plourde says it’s a great gesture made by councillors.

“Council initially when they came into office, initially took no increase and continued along those lines to this time so it’s nothing that was really unexpected and I think it’s something we deal with on a year to year basis,” he said. “I think it’s council’s responsibility to lead by example and that’s what they are doing.”

The last two years the pay increase for mayor and council has gone up by two per cent and this is the first time that it’s been at point five percent.
