The state of emergency that was imposed in Hearst because of the rash of COVID-19 cases has now entered its fourth day. But Hearst Mayor Roger Sigouin says that if need be he wouldn’t hesitate to take the next step — shutting things down.
“We are working with the Porcupine Health Unit, and all of the participants in the community,” he said. “It’s not an easy job to do but sometimes someone has to make a choice and I guess that’s my role.”
He isn’t sure how long the emergency will be in place.
“If it takes a month, it’s gonna take a month, if it’s gonna take two then it takes two,” he said. “It all depends how long it’s going to take to get things stable in Hearst.”
Sigouin says the emergency sends a clear message to the community that things are very serious. He adds that it is up to residents to work together and follow public health protocols.
