Municipal officials say banning single use plastics win-win for communities like Kapuskasing

The Federal Government’s recent decision to ban single use plastics can be a huge win-win to communities like Kapuskasing. Mayor Dave Plourde says the life of a landfill site like ours would be extended even further because of the problems single use plastics cause.

“It will scar it permanently, It doesn’t decompose and it’s something everlasting,” Plourde said. “But furthermore we come from a paper community and so it just provides us with opportunities. It amazing to see what could happen to a paper town without plastics. I see it as a positive.”

Town Administrator Guylain Baril says it was David vs Goliath when they were talking to big box stores about the problems caused by single use plastics that were brought up by local residents. He adds this will help them gain more of an advantage.
