Town looking at cost to put ice on south rink at Sports Palace

The Sports Palace in Kapuskasing could soon have two sheets of ice running again.

Town Staff is studying costs and logistic issues when it comes to the South Rink that is currently being used as dressing rooms due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The North Rink is the only one in operation for hockey and figure skating. Town Administrator Guylain Baril says the extra cleaning already taking place is requiring more staff than in the past. He noted that the Hearst arena has dedicated entrances to their ice surfaces making it easier to move in and out.

Mayor Dave Plourde says the onus is on town council to open up the second sheet of ice and to help keep residents busy and occupied during the pandemic. A full report is expected back in time for the next council meeting in November.
