Kapuskasing construction projects proceeding well despite late start due to COVID-19

Despite getting off to a late start, the various construction projects are proceeding well according to town of Kapuskasing staff. Paving of De L’Etang and Cournoyer streets are nearly complete as well as some of the sidewalk work around the Kapuskasing Education Centre. Mayor Dave Plourde says there may be some carry over of the Government Road construction between LaSalle and Gurney Road into next year.

“I think that you will see maybe one layer of pavement on the highway,” he said. “You won’t see storm sewer in the ditching until next year so there will be parts of it and a second coat of pavement obviously.”

One thing you may have noticed with the Government Road construction is just minor delays in traffic as compared to what was seen last summer with the project from LaSalle to nearly the Golf Course.

Plourde says the scope of work is much different between the two projects.

“The work that was performed on the highway the last year and the year prior was a lot more intense than what we are doing on that site,” he said. “The resurfacing of the highway with water and sewer crossing the highway – compared to what we were doing excavating a good part of the highway a year prior.”
