Kapuskasing Airport Garage Roof to get fixed

The garage at the Kapuskasing Airport is getting a new roof. Town Council agreed to spend $145,000 which is $30,000 over budget to fix due to the uncertainty of the shape of the building and the roof. Mayor Dave Plourde says they’ve had no choice but to get it done now.

“You know we have let it go and let it go, to an extent that we can’t let it go any more, and it’s something that if we want to continue an airport or not that it’s something that we have to repair,” he said.

Town Staff suggested that if the work isn’t carried out now it could cause further damage to the building. An out-of-town company with expertise in flat roofs will be used to for the project something that had a few councilors concerned. Town Staff explained that a local company with experience in flat roofs is not available so they turned elsewhere.
