Royal Canadian Legion opens its doors in Kapuskasing tomorrow

One of the organizations that’s been hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic have been the Legions who have had to keep their doors shut. That’s all going to change tomorrow as the Branch 85 in Kapuskasing will once again welcome everyone. Fundraising chairman Ron Caron says sports activities kicks things off.

“We will restart our senior darts in the afternoon at 1 o’clock, and move on to Thursday night it’s open dart night, all of the members and the public is invited to join,” Caron said. “And Friday, Sept. 25 we are going to begin our washer season.”

Caron says they are waiting on possible government funding but it will take time.

“We have been closed since March of this year, and we still have to pay the bills so we need to open up our doors and generate income,” he said. “So we are going to start all of activities that number one and number two I’m planning an Octoberfest fundraising day on Saturday, October 10th.”

The Royal Canadian Legion has been a major part of the community over the years supporting Kapuskasing Minor Hockey, school scholarships and meals on wheels just to name a few.
