New mobile crisis team launched in Kapuskasing and Hearst area

More help is on the way for those who are having a mental health issue or addiction problem in our region. A new mobile crisis response team that includes the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Hearst-Kapuskasing-Smooth Rock Falls Counselling Services has been set up.

The team includes an embedded social worker who can help in any crisis situation. Inspector Shaun Crabbe commander of the James Bay Detachment says the trained professionals will be a great benefit to not only Police, but to provide better support to those in trouble.

“Our goal here is to help people with addictions and mental health issues get the support they need in a timely manner by putting the right professionals in the right place,” said Steve Fillion, Executive Director of HKSCS.

Police, the counselling services and the Northeast Local Health Integration Network are all working together on this program.
