Back to school delayed until next week for District School Board Ontario North East

Delays in getting personal protective equipment delivered to all of its school have led to the English public board in our region delaying back-to-school until next week.

District School Board Ontario North East director Lesleigh Dye says high-support students will still return this Thursday and Friday.  However, elementary students go back in a staggered fashion beginning next Tuesday, September 8th, based on the first letter of their last names.

“Students with the last names A to H and then Wednesday A to P and then on Thursday, September the 10th, we’re welcoming all students to our classes in DSB1,” Dye says.

Meanwhile, she says the organization that coordinates bus transportation will ensure that drivers will have the necessary PPE.

“Also they are experiencing some bus driver shortages and as a result are looking at combining some routes based on the data where families are indicating whether or not their children will be taking the bus.”

As worrisome as more passengers per bus is, Dye says all the layers of protection should comfort parents.  That includes all students wearing masks onboard, and as much physical distancing as possible.
