Sports Palace to be much different when it does reopen

With the Sports Palace in Kapuskasing, not expected to reopen until the middle of next month, it gives town staff time to put regulations in place on how facility will be operated. Administrator Guylain Baril says they will only be able to have 50 people inside and start off with one ice rink instead of two.

“Hockey teams have 15 per team so that’s 30 and then you had a few parents in there so you can get to 50 pretty quickly,” he said. “We will have to make sure we don’t exceed that number. We are also going to have to look at maybe reducing the number of people in the change rooms too and how everything flows throughout the facility. ”

Baril says town staff is doing their best to meet with all parties.

“Some of the associations that use the ice like the  figure skating club and Kapuskasing minor hockey, Marc Clavelle and his team is working with them to see how they will run the ice,” he said.
“For sure things will be much different than it was in 2019.”

Baril  hopes things will go back to normal in the future.
