Sidewalks renovations to several streets added to budget

Summer is definitely construction season with several projects located all over the model town. Council approved a $65,000 sidewalk project which was omitted from this year’s budget. The project consists of replacing 147 metres of sidewalk on Byng Avenue and along Kapuskasing District High School property. Mayor Dave Plourde says they didn’t catch this project when they were putting together this year’s budget.

“We are experiencing a lot more people walking this summer so it’s important there are no trip and fall hazards,” he said. “It was just adding it to the budget because it wasn’t there before. We want to make sure everyone is safe.”

The repaving of Cornoyer and De L’Etang streets will begin soon following council’s approval of that contract to Lachance Construction. A modification was also made to the Government Road construction project that will see culverts, piping and pavement along the ditches of that stretch of road. Plourde says that extra work will spruce up the area that at times may have looked pleasing to the eye.
