Town officials evaluating reopening of the Civic Center as Stage three of Province’s plan starts Friday

Twenty-four health units across the province including the Porcupine Health Unit will start the Province’s Stage three of the re-opening program this Friday. Under Stage Three, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs can resume indoor service…..fitness facilities, conference centres, and theatres can reopen…..and personal care salons can resume procedures involving facial contact. Amateur sports, other than contact sports, can resume, and playgrounds will also be allowed to reopen. Indoor gatherings will be expanded to 50 people, while outdoor events can have up to 100. In all cases, there must be strict physical distancing measures put in place. Kapuskasing Mayor Dave Plourde says they will have time evaluate their situation and then make a decision on when town hall could re-open.

“We are really going to follow the Porcupine Health Unit and what guidelines they put into place,” he said. “After consultation with them, we will make sure we open up safely and that there is social distancing. We also want to maintain the status that we have had for us when it comes to COVID-19.”

Dave Plourde is thrilled with the way the Provincial Government has gone about the reopening process using various stages.

“It’s really helped us as a province move along and do it safely,” he said. “I’m anxious to get started on this and see how we can do it in a proactive way. We want to ensure that the municipality is safe and no COVID-19 cases come out of here.”
