Sewer and water construction to proceed on Government road despite no funding from Federal Government

Despite not being nominated for Federal Government funding, Kapuskasing Town Council has decided to proceed with sewer and water construction plans for Government Road. Mayor Dave Plourde says it’s important that it all gets done.

“It’s not logical that we wouldn’t do the water and sewer construction at the same time,” he said. “It’s a must do and we have put it in the budget. We applied for the grant hoping we would get it. We knew that if we didn’t get the funding then we would have the money available to carry out the work.”

Dave Plourde says things have changed in the way the town budgets projects.

“Regulations have changed the way we finance projects,” he said. “Water and sewer projects have to come from that portion of the budget so the users must pay for that.”

The province approved the Connecting Link grant to help with the road work from LaSalle Street to Gurney Road. Construction is expected to start later this summer. It’s one of two that’s being done in the community as the bridges west of Kapuskasing at Government Road will also be repaired this year.
