Town of Kapuskasing resumes capital expenditures

Many municipalities across our region have held off with capital expenditures this year due to COVID-19 and not knowing what type of revenue might be available. Kapuskasing Town Council hasn’t seen any significant loss due to unpaid water and tax bills and has decided to go ahead with capital purchases, including some replacement vehicles. Mayor Dave Plourde says it’s time to get things done now while they can.

“These are all budgeted items and I think they are things that if we don’t get this year we will have to get in the next budget,” he said.

Plourde says their budget deliberations began way before the virus was to become a major issue.

“what we are going through right now is something we couldn’t have predicted last year or this year,” he said. “We had no idea when we were going through the process.”

During Monday’s meeting, Councillor Bruce Newton mentioned that it was important for the Town to take advantage of some of the early savings instead of waiting and losing out.
