Little Long Adam Creek project to resume next month

It will be back to work next month for crews at the Little Long hydro dam located about an hour north of Kapuskasing. Construction projects were halted by the Province in April to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Spokesman Katie Cantin with Ontario Power Generation says despite the delays on the project everything is on time.

“The plan from the beginning was to focus on site preparation work this year,” she said. “The main construction work of the project will take place next year so 2021 and that’s inline with what our timeline was.”

Cantin says OPG have been working with the contractor Kiewit Construction on plans to move forward at the location.

“There will be a limited amount of staff on site,” she said. “Safe work measures will be followed based on the contractor’s health and safety procedures that are already in place at other sites and locations.”

The project will add four new sluice gates and make other reliability improvements to the existing Little Long, Smoky Falls and Adam Creek sluice gates.
