COVID-19 has forced communities like Smooth Rock Falls to go through many changes

COVID-19 has put a lot of stress on communities both large and small and it’s taken some adjustment. Smooth Rock Falls Mayor Mitch Arseneault praises his fellow residents for sticking with it.

“The people of Smooth Rock Falls have done a great job through all of this,” Arseneault said. “I’m also happy to see the businesses helping out their customers and respecting the physical distancing. We have also updated everyone with the latest news we get from the Porcupine Health Unit.”

Arseneault says their town staff has had to learn how to adapt.

“We have had to re-adjust our budget and change our plans,” he said. “Town staff has had to work from home and the only people that are working on the job are the public works staff. Our town council is running it’s meetings via Zoom.”

Smooth Rock Falls has joined Kapuskasing by holding video conference meetings in order to make decisions and in some cases pass by-laws.
