Numbers underline value of public health advice to prevent virus spread

If you dive a bit deeper into Porcupine Health Unit COVID-19 numbers, you find that its testing rate is just over 2,000 per 100,000 population.

The percentage of positive cases is 5.1.  Across Ontario, it’s 6.7.

To medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton, the important message from those numbers is the evidence of community exposure and transmission.

“This is when we do not have linkages to travel or other cases, and we’ve been highlighting this for several weeks now,” Catton remarks. “The need to assume and act as though community transmission is occurring and thus there is potential for exposure in every community in the Porcupine Health Unit remains critical.”

That means following all the advice about physical distancing, frequent hand washing and staying home as much as possible.
