High school grads don’t need volunteer hours this year

Students graduating from Grade 12 this year are off the hook.  Because of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, you’re not expected to have 40 volunteer hours. DSB-1 director of education Lesleigh Dye says neither do you have to have passed the provincial literacy test.

“That’s not an issue for them” she states.  “Nor will it be an issue if they only had let’s say 15 of their 40 volunteer hours. The ministry’s been very clear.  Those hours and the literacy requirements have ben waived just for these graduates.  So if you’re in Grade 11, you still have to meet that expectation next year.”

The other thing to remember is that you could boost your marks from what they were before March break… by participating in the online learning offered by your school.
