Rock on the River can’t go ahead with its fifth anniversary festival

One disappointment and one bit of hopeful news from the Timmins Festivals and Events Committee.

Chairman John Olaveson says the uncertainty over the duration of COVID-19 restrictions has forced cancellation of Rock on the River in July.

“It’s frustrating because we did have our Saturday night line-up confirmed,” remarks the chairman, “and just the acts that we had there, we were really pleased with the calibre of acts that we had for our fifth anniversary.”

The hopeful news is that a new date has been set for Beerfest… which was set for this month.  It’s now tentatively set for September 19th.

Olaveson says even if restrictions are gone by July, people still be leery of crowds… and that would affect attendance.

“I think it’s gonna definitely take some time and I’m hoping for Beerfest and to have ROTR in 2021.”

Olaveson also believes that eventually gathering in large groups will be part of the healing process after months of isolation.
