Town council postpones events until June 30

There is a wait and see approach regarding the status of many events set for Kapuskasing this Summer.  Town council recommended suspending the 100th anniversary launch, Sport and Trade Show, Colour Run and Summer Festival until the end of June. Councillor Sebastien Lessard says they will reassess those events and see if they can take place later this summer should the Province lift the COVID-19 emergency.

“We want to give an opportunity for organizers to maybe push their events a little further down the road,” he said. “It will depend on whether the the facilities are available too. There are a lot of ifs out there.”

Council suggested that the Sport and Trade show could be moved to August. Several other events such as the Walleye Challenge, Bikers Helping Hand and the Beer Festival have been told they won’t be able to use the municipal facilities such as the Sports Palace and Civic Centre due to the emergency.
