Police are warning about a COVID-19 scam being perpetrated on Facebook.
Marc Depatie is communications coordinator for Timmins Police.
“If it sounds too good to be true, the old adage is, obviously it is too good to be true,” he reminds us. “There is an active campaign it seems to be underway using social media platforms to take advantage of people who are already suffering with some financial distress.”
Depatie advises you to have good judgment and be suspicious.
“If they’re suspicious in any way, or if you suspect that perhaps this is a fraudulent appeal, we strongly urge that this be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre without delay.”
