Were you partying with COVID-19 patient?

The Porcupine Health Unit’s first confirmed COVID-19 patient went to a stag and doe at the McIntyre Community Building in Schumacher on Saturday, March 7th.

Medical officer of health Doctor Lianne Catton revealed that at a news conference this afternoon.

The Timmins man in his 50s is at home in self isolation.

Catton tells anyone else at the stag and doe to monitor themselves for symptoms for 14 days – effectively until tomorrow.

“If you have attended the event and have experienced a cough, fever and/or difficulty breathing,” she instructs, “please remain at home, isolate yourself and call the Porcupine Health Unit COVID-19 information line.”

That number is on the health unit’s web and Facebook pages.

“This potential source is most likely related to international exposure,” the MOH points out. “The individual travelled before the travel ban, which I think is really important to note, as we need to respect the rights and decisions that others have made.”
