Council to study fixing up the outside of Kapuskasing Civic Centre

Town Hall could be fixed up just in time for the 100th anniversary. Council is asking for a study to look at improving the outside of the Kapuskasing Civic Centre. Mayor Dave Plourde says most of the work that’s taken place has been inside including the new edition to the library.

“We are looking at the brick and the concrete on the building just to maintain everything that we have here,” Plourde said. “We have to recognize that we are going into our 100th anniversary of our community and this building is original to our town site. It’s important to look at all facilities and keep them up. ”

Plourde says Civic Centre needs to be treated like a historical landmark that it is.

“I think anything we do to this building we have to consider that,” he said. “If you look at the inside or outside of the facility and the previous work we have carried out, we have certainly done that.”

Most of the work to the Civic Centre has taken place inside including an addition to the Public Library. However, there are some of existing problems including water damage to the Library and Golden Age Centre, as well as exterior issues with stairs and some the brick.
