If you think your taxes shouldn’t go up again this year, you are not alone. Kapuskasing Town council has told staff that they would like to see a zero increase for the fourth consecutive year. Administrator Guylain Baril says its great news for everyone, but it’s still very early in the process.
“The taxation is our revenue so we try to manage the expenses to not to increase taxes,” he said. “Taht’s not a confirmed decision but council expressed their desire to continue to work the cost side of the budget to find savings.”
Baril council wants to preserve the way of life in our area.
It’s also indicative of Council being aware that we have a community where the cost of living in Kapuskasing is low compared to that of other places in the province and in Canada,” he said.
Council began budget review last week, and there are still several steps in the process to go. He adds that if things go smoothly they could get a final package together by the beginning of April.
