Free Fishing Saturday thru Monday as part of Family Day Holiday Weekend

With temperatures expected to warm up drastically in the next 48 hours, ice fishing might be a family activity this holiday weekend.  It’s free fishing across the province from Saturday thru to Monday. Karen Passmore from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says even though you don’t need a license you still must follow the rules.

“People still have to follow the conservation catch limit, and they have to obey size limits in sanctuaries,” she said. “You can find all of these regulations on our website.”

Passmore has some helpful reminders when going out this weekend.

“Make sure you check ice conditions and you can do that with local ice hut operators or other anglers,” she said. “Let people know when you are planning to fish and when you are planning to return. Obviously where appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.”

There other free fishing weekends planned including Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day and another in early July. Here is a link to the Ministry’s web page https://www.ontario.ca/page/fishing
