United Way accepting funding applications

By Bob McIntyre

The application period has opened for charitable organizations to try to get in on this year’s funding from United Way North East Ontario.

Jennifer Gorman is the regional manager for Timmins and the Cochrane and Timiskaming Districts. She says there are certain criteria.

“They need to be a registered charity and they need to fall within our focus areas of poverty to possibility; kids and all they can be; and healthy people, strong communities,” Gorman outlines.

“There is a section where they need to show us their budgets and how they would spend that accordingly.  We do that, of course, because we are responsible for donor dollars and want to make sure that they’re spent the way that we say they will be spent.”

Applicants ask for a specific amount of money, but how much you get if any at all depends on the total amount available and subject to community priorities identified by United Way.

The application deadline is March 9th.
