Timmins and District Hospital debunks social media posts about coronavirus

Don’t believe what you might have read on social media.  There is NO coronavirus at Timmins and District Hospital

Infection control coordinator Jodie Russell says messages started circulating overnight, saying a case had been confirmed at TADH.

“Those reports are completely false,” he says emphatically.  “We have no patients at Timmins and District Hospital who have tested positive for that coronavirus, nor have we tested anybody at Timmins and District Hospital who’ve met the criteria of travel illness that would warrant testing for that kind of virus.”

Russell repeats the advice to make sure your sources are reliable, truthful and from the mainstream.

“Most of the media outlets are doing a really good job about communicating the official sources for information,” he remarks. “So really look twice, especially if it’s not from a group or from people you normally communicate with.”

He also recommends the Porcupine Health Unit as a source, and  says what TADH was dealing with this morning is like a pebble in a pond.  The ripples go out so fast, you can’t get ahead of them.
