Kapuskasing Air traffic steady and strong despite no commercial flights

The figures are in. Despite not having any commercial flights, traffic at the Kapuskasing Airport remains strong and steady. During 2019 there were nearly 2,400 landings and takeoffs at the airport, with nearly half of that being done by North Star Air. Administrator Guylain Baril says they’ve been an excellent business partner.

“They help to absorb a lot of the cost of operating an airport,” he said. “We can’t imagine not having an airport as it’s needed with emergency medi-vac services plus other reasons.  Having such an important client helps to spread out that cost to many users.”

Baril says the new hanger is fully equipped.

“This new hanger has a fridge, a cooler and lots of space for storage,” he said. “For the last two years, the company still uses the municipally owned hanger for an overflow.”

North Star Air delivers Northern Store products to communities like Kacetchewan, Attawapiskat, and Fort Albany.
