A major sports event is taking place in Kapuskasing starting tomorrow morning. It’s the Super Series 8 provincial qualifying figure skating competition. Close to 100 skaters from across the province are in the Model Town of the North for two days. Organizer Natasha Grant says hosting it in town is great for the local skaters.
“We are always having to travel six hours and sometimes seven hours for competitions to places like Sudbury, and Thunder Bay,” she said. “Now for this one some are traveling one or two hours or not at all.”
Competitions begin at 8 am on Saturday and again on Sunday morning. Skaters will be ages 6 to 15 and participate in a variety of activity of categories from free skate, artistic, special Olympics and Can-Skate Special Olympics. Admission is just $5 for each day. There will also be a 50-50 draw, and a penny sale.
