Town Halls in Hearst and Kapuskasing to be held to discuss Northern Ontario road conditions

Northern Ontario road conditions will be a hot topic of discussion during two town hall style sessions in our region. Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP Guy Bourgouin will be holding one in Hearst tomorrow from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Inovo Centre. He says the meetings feature a number of guest speakers.

“We will have a presentation from contractors, business people and politicians from Kapuskasing and Hearst,” Bourgouin said. There will also be a question and answer session for the public to address their concerns.”

Bouguoin hopes to take the information from these meetings and modify his private members bill about Northern Roads that was turned down in Queen’s Park several months ago.   He adds that not properly maintaining the highways in our region hurts everyone including truckers.

“These truckers don’t get paid and the cost of everything including fuel hurts them when they have to wait around,” he said. “It’s also difficult on people when the road are closed because they can’t make their medical appointments. Students are unable to go to school either.”

A second town hall will be held in Kapuskasing on Friday at the Centre de Loisirs also from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
