If you ever thought that Kapuskasing should have another major street through town, you are not alone. Town staff will begin to design an extension to Golf Street that would intersect Brunetville Road at the former Tim Horton’s location. Administrator Guylain Baril says they are looking at Golf Street because construction on Brunelle Road could cause some traffic problems.
“There are two phases to the construction and in either case diverting the traffic is difficult,” he said. “There is just no other option and you are loading up those other streets that connect into it so it becomes a mess when you start to redesign major arteries.”
Baril says the Golf Street extension is not a new project.
“We have had discussions about Golf Street extension in previous years,” he said. “If we are ever going to consider an extension to that street than it would be best to do it before the Brunelle Road construction.”
There is no price tag on this project, but Baril says they would like to have it ready should government funding be available. There would be no residential opportunities on the Golf Street extension.
