Major figure skating competition in Kapuskasing next weekend

A major figure skating competition is coming to Kapuskasing and the Sports Palace next weekend. Close to 100 figure skaters including 50 from Timmins, Kapuskasing and Hearst will take part in the Super Series 8, a provincial qualifying event. Organizer Natacha Grant says the event is not only important for our region but for the skaters.

“This is an opportunity to show what they can do on home ice, but it’s also an opportunity for other skaters to show what they have learned so far this year,” Grant said.

Grant invites you to come down and watch the competitors all weekend.

“There is a whole variety of events happening throughout the entire weekend,” she explained. “It depends on what you would like to watch. Are you a fan of the artistic side or do you like the jumps.”

Admission is just $5 per day. The skaters will be aged 6 to 17 and feature competitions in ladies and men’s free skate, artistic, Special Olympics and Can-Skate Special Olympics. Here is a link to the Super Series 8 Figure skating event page on Facebook
