KDHS Rudolph Run gets students to share a healthy lifestyle

Sharing a common bond of a health lifestyle! That was the goal of the 2nd annual Kapuskasing District High School Rudolph Run that took place on Friday afternoon. Close to 600 elementary school children participated in 1, 2 and 3 kilometre walks organized by the Step and Stars Program at the School. The students were guided on their walk by the Kapuskasing Fire Department and Emergency Response Vehicles. Teacher Emma Dagenais says the students fund raised $2,500 and found sponsors to help off-set the costs.

“Last year we were co-programming our classes and we wanted to find something that the students could put together and see through until the end as well as get some life skills,” she said. “The students have done all of the leg work to make it all happen.”

Emily Piche-Swain says each elementary student received a gift bag, complete with a running bib, snacks and a colouring book.

“Everyone leaves the event with a big smile,” she said. “Our students for sure changed because it gives them responsibility and put together something that is good for our community.”
