Future of Heritage Festival discussed tomorrow

The Heritage Lumberjack Festival will be the main topic of discussion tomorrow during a lunch time Recreation Committee Meeting. That group will discuss the future of Kapuskasing’s July Festival and then make recommendations to town council. Recreation Director Marc Clavelle says one of the options is to have a smaller festival for next summer.

“Scaling down might be a good option to meeting the needs,” he said. “We need to have some sort of Festival. So we will see where it leads.”

Clavelle says the festival is very important to the people not only of Kapuskasing but the entire region.

“Everyone in the area believes their festivals are important as does Kapuskasing,” he said. “It’s a party, a reunion, a get-together.”

One of the other options is to take a full summer off and come back with a new festival for the Kapuskasing 100th Anniversary Celebrations in 2021. There’s also expected to be discussion about rebranding or renaming the Festival including removing the name Lumberjack.
